Roofing in the snow ~ December 11, 2010

Well – we tried – but no one wanted to slide off the roof on this day (a week ago). Yes.. that is a picture of Chappy.. brooming snow off of a 3-12 roof… HE is tied off.. BUT..

Roofing in the Snow – take two ~ December 12, 2010

We put the roof on- on Friday. 52 pieces of 29 gauge – 3’ x 26’. The weather was against me – Bob spent half the day on Thursday blowing the snow off with a leaf blower (tied off), while I tarped all the doors and windows. I then rented a large space heater and ran 200,000 btu inside all night. In the morning – it was mostly dry. We blew a little more, pre-drilled pilot holes in the steel and then put it up. My dad brought down a giant ancient lift… and we loaded the steel on the lift and raised it to the roof!! Worked great. We put it down in about 6 hours with 7 guys. LET it SNOW

Windows and Doors have arrived ~ December 12, 2010

I received the windows and doors on Friday… while we were putting the roof steel on. The windows came from Soft-Lite… they will be one of my links. The doors are thermatrue doors – and then sent to soft-lite to put in the good glass. The doors are filled with polyurethane foam. I’ll write more about them once I get them unwrapped (three catch hardware…). The windows are vinyl…. Awning and fixed. My doors and windows are very simple.. no thrills. Sheer performance and function. I did get the mahogany exterior finish on the doors. This was the best performance at the lowest cost that I found…. we’ll see how they perform!

Windows ~ December 20, 2010

Starting to install the windows (and doors). I don’t like the lack of prescribed locations for fasteners – I have to drill holes and I’m not sure where – nor where the fastener goes – on the ones that must go inside the frame. More to come…
