Loft and Ceiling ~ February 7, 2011

The loft is finished! What a job. My knees and shins are not happy. Next – we put up half of the ceiling – so i can have the cellulose blown in (today). I put up 4 mil poly (attached to what i have going up the wall), and then 0.5″ Luan. This air barrior has me terrified. I hope it works. I will also tape the luan joins – then seal the entire area with a clear coat – then cover all the seams with a 3-4″ wide strip of wood.

Roof Insulation ~ February 16, 2011

Review – plastic up to the rafters – then 0.5″ Luan + tape all joints = air seal (I HOPE). I have a cavity that is 29″ so i filled it with loose blown cellulose. In PHPP (for you other energy nerds), this renders just over an R100 roof, and a SSHD of 3.75 (but i’m not done with the model yet). From a roof of R1 now to R100… i should see some serious impact in my heating now!
