Heat Pump Hot Water Heater Trouble ~ December 11, 2012

Well- the Geospring GE Heat pump hot water heater failed. All of a sudden- display registered “heat pump failure” – operating in all electric mode! After three weeks, and two hours of labor from a heat pump guy… its working again. The refrigerant in the heat pump developed a hole.. somewhere and it leaked out. I did notice that the noise was getting louder and louder…. It lasted 6 months. Hope this one lasts longer!

Living in the Passive House ~ December 11, 2012

No pics this time.. just comments. The house is amazing.. it is actually over-performing. I am in a 6500 HDD climate.. its mid December.. And i’m sure i have not used any heat but for 4-5 days. The house loses 3 degrees overnight when it is 32 outside. Right now- it will pick up as much as 5 degrees with 4+ hours of decent sun. After splitting firewood all day for my parents – I realized.. WOW.. I’m so glad my house doesn’t need any heat. More to come!

Radon ~ December 11, 2012

I had a customer on the phone the other day… and he tipped me off to a radon detector… so i bought one. I am happy to report that the last 4 days- the reading has varied from 1.7 – 2.3 pc/l . Well below the recommended max of 4.0. I will be taking this around to various other houses in town to compare to.
